CANLIS RESTAURANT APPROACHED ME WITH THE DESIRE TO CREATE AN ELEGANT WINE CRADLE FOR TRANSPORTING AND DECANTING WINE BOTTLES FROM THE CELLAR TO THE TABLE. DOUBLING AS AN AESTHETIC PRESENTATION TO THEIR GUESTS, IT HAD TO BE AS MINIMALISTIC AS POSSIBLE, COMPLIMENTING THE SELECTION OF WINE, NOT OVERPOWERING. THE HANDLES ON THE SIDE ALLOW THE LABEL TO REMAIN UNOBSTRUCTED WHEN SHOWCASED.
FUNCTIONALLY, THE CRADLE'S PURPOSE IS TO CONTROL THE SEDIMENT FOUND IN OLD BOTTLES OF WINE. WHILE SITTING HORIZONTAL IN THE CELLAR, THE SEDIMENT BUILDS UP ON THE BOTTOM. TURNING THIS UPRIGHT WOULD STUR THE SEDIMENT THROUGHOUT THE BOTTLE. BY CAREFULLY PLACING THE BOTTLE INTO THE CRADLE, THE SLOPE BEGINS TO MIGRATE THE SEDIMENT TO THE BASE OF THE BOTTLE. SITTING AT A PERFECT ANGLE, THE BOTTLE CAN BE DECORKED WHILE REMAINING STABILIZED. THE HANDLES AND THE OPEN WINDOWS ON THE FRONT PLATE ALLOW THE SOMMELIER TO POUR THE WINE, WHILE LOOKING THROUGH FROM THE TOP TO ENSURE THAT THE SEDIMENT STAYS IN THE BOTTLE.
