Beyond the aesthetic impact and use for elevated presentation, the Canlis Wine Cradle is a meticulously crafted tool for decanting wine. The resting angle begins the process of pulling the sediment down to the lowest point of the bottle. Cork removal can be done securely in place to minimize handling disturbance. Gripping from the upper rods, the pour can be performed while looking through the large viewing window under the neck to ensure all sediment is refrained from entering the decanter.

Presenting a bottle of wine to a guest lends an emotional opportunity for anticipation. Rather than overpowering, the cradle is intended to be a secondary recognition, complimenting first the focus of the label. Developing a carrying method without an obstructing handle over top was the gateway to this success. Reducing weight as much as possible ultimately led to a minimalist approach, nearly perceiving the bottle to be floating in the air.

Key Features

Hundreds of 750ml bottles were tested to ensure a secure fit with a wide range of neck and body diameters while keeping the overall footprint of the product as minimal as possible.

A year of testing with multiple sommeliers determined the perfect angle and width between rods for comfortable and natural grasping of the cradle while pouring.

Machined with aircraft aluminum, the black anodized metal components are scratch resistant and have comparative qualities to steel at half the weight, enabling a minimalist design without sacrificing strength.

A clean pour is an important step when decanting wine. Place a light or candle under the viewing window to clearly see the sediment at the shoulder of the bottle, ensuring none gets poured in.
